“ | I saw once a plague strike northern lands of ice. It was so terrible that not the oldest man among us could remember the like. Hundreds died. The sickness took nearly every person younger than forty and many older, and where dying mothers gave birth, the marks of the plague were on the babes as they came out of the womb.

The Swamp Shard Trial is one of Trials of Odin that Senua is tasked with completing to repair the sword Gramr.
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice[]
Senua will find herself in a swampy area across from the graveyard, high up in the hills above the tree. As she begins to explore, she will come across an abandoned village with a blue light coming from a house. Senua jumps into a fetid swamp and advances until she reaches a house near a stone archway that resembles Valravn 's illusion gates . After using Valravn's illusion gates to clear the way, Senua finds a broken bridge that she can repair using her focus after climbing a small Viking watchtower. After crossing the rebuilt bridge, she reaches the house of blue light and hears a voice calling her to enter. Upon entering the house, she comes across a runic gate with Valravn's illusion that she focuses on, and ends up being transported to an entirely different house where angry voices are coming towards her and a light at the end of the hallway is growing larger. An entity begins to chase Senua, and she must find 3 runes scattered throughout this house and focus on them while the entity chases her. After focusing on the runes, she releases access to the door that was sealed and notices Dillion's figure passing through it. Then Senua runs towards this door and soon after a flashback occurs of Senua's past talking to Dillion about his darkness, which the people of the village believed to be a curse.
Gameplay[]
In this trial, Senua's main objective is to escape the swamp.
